Four Seasons

"Four Seasons" is a series that honors all women and our common mother the earth. They are portraits of women from around the world personifying the seasons. They can be thought of as Queens or Spirits.

The circle is at the heart of this series and women as the champions of the environment at its center. The paintings are printed on canvas and finished with traditional handicrafts like embroidery, beads, and paint with custom-designed and painted frames. Going from an analog world to a digital creation and back again to a finished piece that is tactile and embraces the traditions of generations past is an important part of this work.

The series is meant to empower the viewer to see the beauty and value to be found at all ages and in all ethnic groups and is intended to combat stereotypes and ageism in a way that is both subtle and powerful.

Thank you!

To all my wonderful models

I started my series with close friends and relatives but expanded to more recent friends towards the end of the project. They hail from 5 continents, 9 countries, and range in age from 14 to 90. Among my models are a potter, a dancer, a singer, new graduates in their first jobs, a medical student, mothers, grandmothers, educators, physical therapists and a nurse. All women of great strength and profound beauty.
