Happy patron, happy artist!

I enjoyed this commission very much!

It is based on a mural that you can see at the old Rockville Post Office, now part of the police station. Painted by Judson Smith in 1940 as part of the works program. More info about it here: https://livingnewdeal.org/projects/old-post-office-mural-rockville-md/

I had not made a landscape this size before and found it a fun challenge. Below is a step-by-step guide to making this mural copy. I did try to record most of the process, to give a sense of what is involved. But of course, there was some math as well involved upfront and finding a canvas the right size and within budget. And as with most commissions, there was quite a bit of back and forth involved as the client decided on the size they wanted. Fortunately, this was not a rush job and so I got to take a break in the middle of the project to go on an Italian art adventure!

Thanks to my wonderful patron for this opportunity! And do contact me if you would like to commission work! I would be thrilled to make you happy too!
